I’ve been buying meat and baked goods from Earl Les Fromentaux for several months. I first fell for their Scotch eggs and pasties, and more recently I’ve been enjoying their British-style cured bacon and sausages.

Sue Manning and her fantastic team serve meals every Friday and Saturday; I’ve loved several cooked breakfasts this year. Last Saturday I chose a roast pork dinner instead: the pork was incredibly tender and fell apart, with perfect crackling, roast potatoes, vegetables and an upgraded Yorkshire pudding ( with slices of sausage).

I also bought a beautiful fresh beef steak to take home, and Sue kindly included a vegetable curry to try — it was so delicious I briefly considered becoming vegetarian, if only I hadn’t already stocked up on meat for the next few weeks.

If you want top-quality farm-shop meat from people who truly care about their produce, this is the place: excellent food, great value. I highly recommend Sue’s restaurant and shop.
